Pumpkin Carving

Molly decorating her "pig" - she thought the ears looked like feet, so she ended up with an earless pig with "flippers". I cracked up, but not in front of her - she was so proud of her masterpiece!

Molly, the only one brave enough, helping me clean out our pumpkin to carve it.

Rayleigh's doggy pumpkin - a face perfectly placed, of course, as she is my particular, very meticulous one (chip off the ol' block is what her dad says - I have no idea what he is talking about).

Pumpkin carving night was a crazy night. There were a million things to do and very little time to get them accomplished in. First thing in the door from picking up the kids from school and Bev’s (after a crazy day at work, Molly’s snack day and a Halloween parade at the girls’ school, and trick-or-treating at Bev’s – all by 4:00pm), I started cooking up a big pot of chili to cook in the crock pot for Halloween night. We were having quite a crowd over for the festivities, so I whipped up some pumpkin bars as well. Because Rayleigh had been in the hospital at the first of the week, a lot of things had been bumped to the end of the week. Amanda, our housekeeper, was coming on Friday (instead of Tuesday), so that meant that the laundry had to be picked up and put away, dishes done, and the rest of the house straightened. That is a full evening in itself most weeks! Plus, we had planned to carve the pumpkin early in the week, but that also had been put on hold and Thursday evening was the only evening left to do that as well. The best part – Tyler had already committed to going to a football game with a friend for the evening and couldn’t back out, so that left yours truly to do the rest. By the grace of God, it all got done. I included a few pics of our pumpkin carving session. None of the kids wanted to touch the “pumpkin guts”, but I finally talked Molly into at least trying it. That used to be our favorite part as kids! We ended up carving a spider & spider web on our pumpkin, but I didn’t get it all finished that night. I finished it up early Halloween evening and set in on the porch just in time! Needless to say, I slept very well that evening!
