Enjoyable bathtime

Tonight, Tyler had a meeting with a client from work, so the kids and I grabbed a quick dinner and headed up for bath time as I figured that it may take a little longer than normal seeing as how I was “bacheloretting” it for the evening. Usually, who gets to be bathed first would be an argument, but tonight, Rayleigh offered a breath of fresh air and allowed Tucker and Molly to go first without any resistance (highly unusual, especially for her, as she is usually less willing to give in). Then she was a true God-send and offered to wash Tucker as I washed Molly – she loves to be the little mommy! What a grand idea – I couldn’t have come up with a better one myself. She washed away on Tucker as I did on Molly, and with only a little assistance, everyone was soon bathed and on their way to PJ’s! What a breakthrough this was for us – a light at the end of my day. My favorite part, however, was not only in the extra set of hands, but in the conversation between the girls as well. As I said, they love to play “grown-up”, so their conversation quickly shifted into “Mommy-mode”. A few of the scenes went as follows:

Tucker: “Bubbles! Look Mommy, lots of bubbles!”

Rayleigh: “Oh, I loved bubbles when I was a little girl!”

You know, she is so advanced in her age these days!

Later, Molly spotted a little scab on Rayleigh’s ankle where a battle wound of some sort was healing.

M: “Rayleigh, you have a bug bite. Does it hurt, do you need a band-aid?”

R: “It’s no problem, Molly. It’s been there for a 100 years!”

I about died laughing. First of all, the mosquitoes in Kansas are horrendous this time of year, and second of all, I love Rayleigh’s attitude about a cut when she is in Mommy mode, because most days she is falling to the ground in excruciating pain due to a paper cut! I loved the carefree attitudes tonight. God always seems to send a ray of hope and progress just when we need it most!
