Kindergarten Roundup . . .

Where has the time gone? It doesn't seem that long ago that I was headed to class myself, and here I was today, taking my babies to sign them up for school! They ditched preschool today for bigger & better feats - or so they thought. They were so excited to have the whole day to spend with Mom (no school & no daycare - they love daycare too, but a day with Mom is often quite the treat). We were greeted with a welcoming smile from Mrs. Landrith, the kindergarten teacher at St. Mary's, first thing that we walked in. She met us at the door with name tags in hand (funny that she didn't have to ask who we were even though we had never met - surely two girls that look so similar didn't give it away!). She immediately accessorized them with colorful name tags, and offered her hand to take them into the "play room". Molly reached right out to head in with her, but Rayleigh, being a little more reserved, went into "Holy CRAP" mode. Big tears welled up in her eyes, and she wanted me to come along. So - in I went. Why am I the only Mom in the "play room" - always? Oh, well. It only helps me to practice my patience, right? A few minutes of organizing some blocks & coloring some pages, all was well, and I got to go back with the other parents in the "waiting room". The girls participated beautifully, and I am quite proud of them, I have to say. They will be one of the younger ones in the group, so we will see what they say about them being ready. Their preschool teacher seems to think that they will be bored if we don't send them, so we are just playing it by ear for now.

As they finished up, they were awarded with a pencil and a high five. Now for the dreadful part - health screening. Both girls weighed in right at 42 pounds, and Molly is about an inch taller right now. Their blood pressure was great & heart rhythms normal - thankfully they did that before what was about to come - SHOTS! Yes, that's pleural - 4 of them to be exact. They had to endure the ever-painful MMR & the varicella (chicken pox) vaccine both. I'm just hoping they don't have the same reaction this time to the varicella shot, because the first time, their whole thigh had a welt on it, and they actually got a few pox as well. I guess we'll just see. Luckily, Tyler was there to help with the post-shot crying. Once they regained control, we limped out the door. Mrs. Landrith was certain to reassure them that the next time that they came back to kindergarten that there would not be any shots!

After that, Tyler headed out for his fishing trip for the weekend. There were 9 guys going to Sedan, KS for a fishing trip. They had a crappie tourney planned for one day, and enough beer & brats for an army, so they were set. I went and picked Tucker up from Bev's, and took the kids to Mazzio's buffet (their fav) for a special lunch, and then we were off to Aunt Kelsey & Uncle Nick's for a fun-filled weekend of painting their new house! Coweta, Oklahoma - here we come!
